Energy wisdom
If you could be your own energy minister, you would:
- Expend your precious energies on what truly matters to you in the present.
- Conserve your energy by letting go of all unworthy squabbles.
- Renew your energy by immersing yourself in activities you love or the company of those you cherish.
Focus, kindness, forgiveness, and playfulness serve as powerful energizers.
“The energy of the mind is the essence of life.” – Aristotle
Attribution error
When you attribute your success to your personality while ascribing others’ success to favorable circumstances,
When you believe you won’t achieve like them because you lack certain personality traits,
When you attribute your mistakes to your situations but interpret others’ mistakes as intentional,
When you think others have only what they truly deserve –
You may be making a fundamental attribution error.
Outcomes and behaviors are shaped by factors beyond one’s personality. Consider crafting favorable circumstances rather than relying solely on personality traits.
“The error lies in our inclination to attribute people’s behavior to the way they are rather than to the situation they are in.” – Chip Heath
Coaching with hope
How your team feels after a coaching conversation with you as a leader matters a lot. Inquiring about what is going well, recognizing what the team is doing right, or exploring their strengths can shift the tone of the discussion. It can inspire hope, motivate the team to progress, or encourage them to embrace change. When your team is feeling low, coach them with hope. Hope propels people to face adversity and take action.
“Coaches who can outline plays on blackboard are dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their players and motivate.” – Vince Lombardi
