Ideas are combinations

Ideas are not created in isolation; they emerge through combinations.

  • Business: Netflix is a combination of video rental business and monthly subscription clubs.
  • Science: The human Genome project arose from the intersection of two disciplines – biology and computer science.
  • Therapy: Psychodrama is a therapeutic modality that blends psychology with theatre arts.

If you want to excel at ideation, you need to explore widely, stay curious, and be unabashed of sounding crazy.

“Creativity is just connecting things.” — Steve Jobs

Done list

A To-Do list is designed to help you be productive and focused at the start of the day. However, it often keeps growing and never ends by the close of the day. Seeing pending items can make you feel frustrated. On the other hand, try creating a Done list at the end of the day. This allows you to acknowledge your efforts and feel a sense of accomplishment. How you feel at the end of the day has a significant impact on your well-being

“Celebrate endings, for they precede new beginnings.” – Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Triple loop learning

  • Single-loop learning is about how to do things right.
  • Double loop learning is about understanding the root cause and fixing the problem.
  • Triple Loop learning is about ascertaining the system. It could be going deeper to examine values and assumptions that drive behaviors and decisions.

Training promotes single loop learning, mentoring supports double loop learning and coaching facilitates triple loop learning.

“By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.” ― Confucius
