Losing yourself
Losing yourself in something you love doing is the way to find yourself. When you are learning drums, learn to be lost in the act of playing the drums. When you draw, be lost in the world that you are drawing on paper. While coding, be lost in the syntax of your code. Only then will you find the drummer, the painter, or the coder in you.
Do not concern yourself with being good. Concern yourself with being present in what you love doing. In what you get lost, you find yourself.
So today, ask yourself, ‘Where would I love to be lost?’
“Lose yourself in the things you love, and you’ll find yourself there.” — Friedrich Nietzsche
Your voice
What powers your voice is not the volume of words spoken but the depth of meaning it carries. It is not in the pitch of your voice but in the vibration of your heart. It is not about grabbing attention. It is about speaking to others’ souls. A voice is powered by conviction and integrity in what one truly believes. In a world that is filled with noise, your voice can stand out if it aligns with your heart and values. To stand out, don’t shout louder. Speak deeper.
“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.” — Rumi
Leadership is sensemaking
Leadership is sensemaking about who needs your help. Those who truly need help may not be asking for it. It could be because they don’t know what to ask. They may fear seeing themselves as incapable. They may not know that help exists. As a leader, you need the ability to sense what people need and how they need your support.
- Walk around and you will see more
- Engage in casual conversations, and you will know more
- Give space to others’ views and you will learn more
When you make sense of others’ needs, you become the kind of leader people trust and remember.
“Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.” — Simon Sinek
